You know you’re in DECA when….

If you do any of these things,  you know you’re in DECA….though if we are being honest everyone already knows you’re in DECA.

  • You spend money you earned or received on new clothes for competition
  • When a parent asks why do you need that, the answer is always “for DECA.”
  • You’re worried that your lanyard won’t match your outfit
  • You’ve learned to resent the word “Ontario”
  • You get annoyed when people ask “What is DECA..?”
  • You have a DECA trophy, award, medal wall of honor
  • You don’t call it the school year, you call it DECA season
  • You refer to fast food as quick serve
  • A 10 page essay for English feels like a joke
  • You change normal words into ones like “DECAtastic” and DECAscuse me?”
  • You judge first impressions by a handshake
  • You critique the fashion of business people twice your age
  • You use and abuse the phrase, “One time, in DECA…”
  • You use annual DECA themes in everyday conversation
  • You get very frustrated when you can’t draw the diamond just right
  • People know you have a “DECA mode” and are intimidated by it
  • Your friends find your obsession with pins a little bizarre
  • You seriously consider wearing your blazer to prom
  • You have an elevator speech just in case you get asked, “So what is DECA?”
  • Your friends don’t see you much in the spring
  • You Snapchat the countdown before every ceremony
  • You don’t get any sleep one weekend in March
  • You value a DECA trophy more than pure gold
  • Your DECA room is a second home
  • You fangirl/boy when you see the national officers
  • You have friends all over the nation who you may never have met, but you seem to have known forever
