How to Rule the Magic Kingdom

So you’ve qualified for ICDC, what are you going to do next? Go to Disney World of course! And when you’re in Disney World, your one stop shop for all things magical is The Magic Kingdom, but with so much to do and so little time, how will you get the most of your adventure? Luckily, I happened to be good friends with Goofy, and he gave me the inside scoop of all there is to see and do in the wonderful world of Disney.

The title is self explanatory. There is not a single inch of this place that is not oozing with Magic (even the bathrooms are cool).

If you have the time early (and know that you are going to want to shop later), I would recommend scoping out the shops on Main Street right away because the crowds will be a little thinner then, and coming back before you leave to make your purchases. Don’t buy everything right away, or you’ll have to carry it around all day. Unless, of course, you want a sick goofy hat to wear around the park and show off your DECAtastic sense of style.

As far as rides go, if you like thrill rides, I’d recommend going to check out Space Mountain in Tomorrow Land. It’s indoors, and super cool… a must do if you’ve never been before. If the weather is nice, you should check out Splash Mountain. It’s a cool combination (pun intended) of animatronics and thrill ride. Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean are also must sees. The incredible detail and animatronics make you feel like you’re part of the movie.

If you prefer relaxing rides, I’d say to check out Peter Pan’s Flight. It’s another classic and is still really cool. Directly across from that is It’s a Small World, which some people hate, but I personally love. Either way, you’ll be humming the song for a couple hours after the ride. Another good one to check out is the Under the Sea Journey of the Little Mermaid, and after you get off the ride you can go right next door to meet Ariel in her Grotto.

Speaking of characters, you can go to meet Goofy, Donald, Minnie, and Daisy at Pete’s Silly Sideshow. The best time to go is an hour before the fireworks. There will be zero waiting. Plus, the characters will be able to show you a little more attention because they won’t have to make sure they see everyone in line… you are the line. Mickey is hidden in the front of the park (literally right next to the entrance) at Town Square Theater. His line is consistently fully, but usually moves pretty well. For some reason, you can also meet Tinkerbell here, because I guess that makes sense. The princesses are in Fairy Tale Hall with a similar wait. Tiana is in the park too, but she is hidden just inside Liberty Square behind the Christmas shop. Aladdin and Jasmine are located in Adventure Land right by the magic carpet ride. Woody and Jessie from Toy Story are by the exit to Splash Mountain in Adventure land. Chip and Dale hang out right around there too!

If you want to sit down for a bit and take in a show, I’d Highly recommend the Philharmagic! It’s a musical/movie extravaganza that combines some of the best Disney moments. Plus it has Donald Duck which is great. Another good one to check out is the Country Bear Jamboree. It’s in Adventure Land, and is so corny that it’s great! They also make fun of it in A Goofy Movie, so there’s that! Plus they do a Castle Show several times throughout the day where the Characters talk (super cool), so that is always a fun distraction. The 3:00 O’clock Parade – Festival of Fantasy – is AWESOME. Definitely worth checking out if you have the time.

If you leave Magic Kingdom without balling your eyes out from the beauty that is the Wishes Fireworks show, you have failed. It usually starts a little after night fall (10), and is the most glorious thing you will ever see. Fun fact: the little girl singing got to do it as part of her Make A Wish. They liked her so much, that they turned it into their main fireworks production! If for some reason you HAVE to leave beforehand, I’d take the ferry, as it is an excellent view of the fireworks, and sometimes they’ll even play the wishes soundtrack along with the show.

Of course, while you’re there, don’t forget to throw up some DECA diamonds and share your pictures with us! #DECAICDC #ILDECA

Have a Magical Day!
