Akshay Punukollu

Akshay Punukollu is absolutely thrilled to be the new DECA Vice President of Public Relations for the coming year! As a current junior at Naperville Central High School, DECA has played an integral part in Akshay’s personal and professional development. “DECA has not only helped me develop myself as a business professional, but has opened me up to the most amazing experiences and people I have ever met” he says. As a freshman Akshay joined many clubs, but only when he joined DECA his sophomore year, did he find his true passion. Akshay is currently the Vice President of Competition, at the Naperville Central DECA chapter, and has worked extensively with members to build strong relationships, and business skills.
As a sophomore Akshay made it to the International Career Development Conference for Hotel and Lodging Management. At ICDC, Akshay won both the International Third Place award in his event, but also the High Score award in role play 2. This year Akshay has also been honored to receive the Naperville Central DECA monthly excellence award.

In addition to being absolutely infatuated with DECA, Akshay hold leadership positions in many different organizations. Akshay is the two-term vice president of the Naperville Central Business Professionals of America, Captain & President of the Naperville Central Model United Nations, and serves as a councilman for the Class Council- among other activities. Akshay has been lucky enough to be awarded numerous National and International awards in said organizations. Outside of school Akshay serves as a liaison, trustee, and marketing committee member for the Naperville Education Foundation. The skills that Akshay has developed over the years can only add to the continued success of Illinois DECA.
Akshay’s entrepreneurial passions were ignited because of DECA. And over the last few years, Akshay has gained valuable insight into companies by interning and working at some of the most successful start up companies in the United States. Akshay believes that the strong professional and academic basis he has is a result of the culmination of knowledge from a variety of sources- and he can bring this foundation of knowledge to Illinois DECA. Akshay’s passions have been developed due to DECA, and he hopes to foster the same passion in Illinois DECA members.

Personally, Akshay has a loving family that consists of an older sister, and two incredible parents. As a family, they love to travel and experience new ways of life together. In the future Akshay hopes to pursue a degree in Business & Economics, with a minor in International Relations. After college, Akshay hopes to be working in a job he loves- or owning his own company. Eventually hoping to receive his MBA.

This year Akshay hopes to bring DECA to the real world, with the unwavering support for every DECA member. Akshay knows he can translate the skills that are taught through DECA into connections and opportunities for every DECA member. As Akshay says, “Together, we can make this year epic!
